PERFORMANCE INFO/REQUEST: Team Hill Diversity Festival

Let me first introduce myself, my name is Irene Jones and I am the Co-Chair for Team Hill Diversity Council (THDC). We will be hosting our first-ever Team Hill Diversity Festival on Saturday, 20 August 2016 on Hill Air Force Base. I am inquiring of African American Dancers and Drummers that could perform for approximately 30 min. I was on the website: www.blackcityinfo.com/utah/utah-salt-lake-city.html and on the bottom of the page there was a video clip under City Video Connection with a title of “Celebrate Black History Month Feb 2011 in Salt Lake City UT #3”. Would you be able to tell me who and how to contact that group dancing? A little information of our council.

PURPOSE: The purpose of the THDC is to enhance cross-cultural awareness and to promote diversity among all military members, civilian employees, family members, and retirees.

OBJECTIVES: To build human relations. To nurture a safe and positive environment. To observe all ethnic/special observances equally. To recognize the achievement and contributions made by members of specific racial, religious, ethnic, and gender groups in our society. To promote cohesion, mutual respect, understanding, teamwork, harmony, pride, and esprit-de-corps through education.

We will have information booths for all the special observances celebrated/acknowledge throughout the year all in one.

Special Observances listed under Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute: https://www.deomi.org/

1. Martin Luther King, Jr (3rd Monday of January)

2. African American History Month (February)

3. Women's History Month (March)

4. Holocaust Remembrance Day/Holocaust Days of Remembrance (April/May)

5. Asian-American Pacific Islander Heritage Month (May)

6. Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month (June)

7. Team Hill Diversity Month (August)

8. Women's Equality Day (26 August)

9. Hispanic American Heritage Month (15 September to 15 October)

10. National Disability Employment Awareness Month (October)

11. American Indian and Alaskan Native Heritage Month (November)

We would love to have at least 3-4 performers to perform approximately 30 minutes and African American Dancers being one of them. Of course since this is our first-ever, we are working with a very small budget and we might have to re-evaluate our wants with what we can afford.

Any information you can provide is greatly appreciated. I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you
Irene Jones
