Michigan City is a city in LaPorte County, Indiana, USA. It is one of two principal cities included in the Michigan City-La Porte, Indiana Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is included in the Chicago-Naperville-Michigan City Combined Statistical Area. It had a population of 31,479 at the 2010 census.
Michigan City is noted for both its proximity to the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and for bordering Lake Michigan. Due to this, Michigan City receives a fair amount of tourism during the summer months, especially by residents of Chicago and of nearby cities in Northern Indiana. The lighthouse is a notable symbol for the city.
The median income for a household in the city was $33,732, and the median income for a family was $39,520.
On clear days it is possible to see the Chicago skyline across Lake Michigan. In 1996 Mayor Sheila Brillson introduced a new logo for Michigan City, which featured the Chicago Skyline.
Known for its many talented musicians, Michigan City also has one of the nation's oldest active municipal bands. Free concerts are performed for the public every Thursday evening at the Guy F. Foreman Amphitheatre located in Washington Park.
In recent years, Michigan City has added a riverboat, the Blue Chip Casino. This casino is the largest riverboat in Indiana. The Blue Chip just finished building the biggest building in all of northwest Indiana by adding a 22 story hotel to its offerings in 2009.

Mitchell Hudson Inc. Workshop/Seminars - Category: Services - MHI is a non profit program, based in Michigan City, Indiana, that has two working components. Our target population are young people ages 14 through 19.
Raising Hope is a 10 week after school program that provides a learning environment designed to address basic life lessons. (The 'how to' of navigating through life without falling in the cracks, or subcoming to lifes pitfalls).
The second component is our Education Through Travel Program. This program is designed so that the student can gain social skills, and decision making skills by networking with their peers as we travel to other communities.
Our desire is to encourage a change and create a wider vision for the youth in our community. That will provide them the opportunity to make wise choices regarding their lives.
The Education Through Travel component is a 2 week segment, with the youth making all of the preparations, working with a budget. Follow up with confirming all information.
Once our excursion is completed we return back to classroom for a one question written essay.
