A Taste of Freeport, Illinois

did you know?
DID YOU KNOW THESE FACTS ABOUT FREEPORT?

  1. Freeport is a city in — and the county seat of — Stephenson County, Illinois. The population was 25,638 at the 2010 census.

Rev. Al Sharpton to Join Workers Facing Outsourcing by Bain for Rally at Bainport Prominent civil rights leader and political commentator will stand with Sensata workers in the fight to save their jobs

Freeport, IL – On Saturday, October 20, civil rights leader and MSNBC host Rev. Al Sharpton will join Sensata workers for a rally at Bainport in protest of Bain’s decision to ship 170 good, American jobs to China. Former NAACP Chairman Julian Bond and Sen. Dick Durbin have also visited Bainport in recent weeks to lend their support to the workers’ cause.

Bain-owned Sensata has emerged as a flashpoint in the controversy over Romney’s ties to Bain in the lead up to Election Day, with the company’s employees pleading publicly with Romney to help save their jobs from being outsourced to China.

In September, the workers began to camp outside the plant to protest Bain’s decision to ship their jobs to China and increase the pressure on Romney—who still profits directly from Sensata—to help save their jobs. They plan to stay at the encampment until Romney agrees to help save their jobs, or until middle-class voters nationwide understand the dangers of a Romney economy for our country.

“We are so honored to have Rev. Sharpton standing with us in Bainport on Saturday,” said Dot Turner, who has worked at the Sensata plant for 43 years. “Thanks to his support, our message about the dangers of Romney’s economic vision for workers will reach Americans across the country. Together, we’re drawing a line in the sand against the outsourcing of U.S. jobs by companies like Bain.”

WHO: Civil rights leader Rev. Al Sharpton

Sensata workers and concerned community members

WHAT: Rally at Bainport

WHEN: Saturday, October 20 at 4pm
