WHAT MAKES MY CITY GREAT? Vallejo, California Hello, my name is Woodi and I would like to submit my information to BlackCityInfo.com about what makes my city great. I live in the Bay Area of California in a medium sized city named Vallejo. I have lived here for about 22 years moving from Stockton Ca. Vallejo has a very diverse mixture of the races, so anyone visiting here would feel comfortable no matter where they went, there aren't any Black, White, Asian, or Mexican neighbohoods, they are all mixed. the population last time I checked was about 115,000.
We have an Amusement park named Marine World Africa USA, where people visit from all over the country. Vallejo doesn't have much of a nightlife, one hole in the wall club I used to visit named the 5th Amendment closed down years ago, but I'm out of the club scene anyways so I don't care. A lot of the black folks eat at JJ's Fish and Fry on Fairgrounds Dr. You can eat it there in their small building or order it to go, which is usually what I do. They fry the fish up right where you can see them. Red snapper, catfish, Buffalo fish, you name it they got it. There is a wonderful soul food establishment named House Of Soul where I haven't eaten a bad meal yet, I even met Danny Glover there one night. But be prepared to wait a long time for your order because those folks just don't move fast enough for me. I learned to call ahead, give them about 25 minutes and go pick up my order. Short Ribs are my favorite, and they have a Peach Cobbler pie that's out of this world, sometimes people go there just for the pie. Vallejo is going through a bankruptcy right now, so some of our services has been cut, and crime has picked up a bit, just gotta be careful where you go and wish for the best. We don't have a shopping mall, but we have to travel to a nearby city named Fairfield for that luxury, well it's only about a 15 minute ride. Vallejo is super close to many major citites, such as San Francisco (30 minutes) Oakland (20 minutes) San Jose (1 hour) Sacramento (1 hour), so whenever I want to leave the quiet life here, I visit one of these cities to get my groove on! Vallejo has many faults, mainly because of the way it's run, but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else! Submit your story and pic to: admin@blackcityinfo.com |
