  2. President Bush was visiting an elementary school in Sarasota when the September 11 attacks took place.

  3. An area in northern Sarasota attracted many of the Ringling brothers, who had created their wealth as circus magnates, at the turn of the century. The Ringling Brothers Circus had not yet consolidated as a single entity.
