Recap and photos from American Heart Association Heart Walk in San Diego with Jenny Craig Brand Ambassador, and actress Bre'ly Evans.

As you may know, Jenny Craig Brand Ambassador Bre'ly Evans joined Team Jenny at the AHA Heart Walk today in San Diego! She pounded the pavement (inspiring walkers along the way) for an amazing cause! Heart health is an issue that hits home to Bre'ly. She lost her grandmother to diabetes, and she didn't want to travel down the same road. She understands that losing weight isn't just about fitting into those skinny jeans - it's about being heart healthy so you can live a long and healthy life for your family!

Jenny Craig Brand Ambassador Bre’ly Evans is proud to participate in the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk on behalf of “Team Jenny,” in Jenny Craig’s hometown of San Diego, California on Saturday, September 15th. The Heart Walk is the American Heart Association's premiere event that brings communities together to raise funds and celebrate progress in the fight against this country's No. 1 and No. 4 killers, heart diseases and stroke. Jenny Craig is a proud National Sponsor of the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk and is supporting more than 300 walks across the United States.

Actress Bre’ly Evans has lost 33 pounds in 19 weeks* on Jenny Craig and recently revealed her new body on the red carpet for the Hollywood premiere of Sparkle, starring Jordin Sparks and the late Whitney Houston. Evans, who plays the role of “Tune Ann,” the best friend of Sparks’ character “Sparkle,” has struggled with her weight throughout her life, but decided to make a change after losing her grandmother to diabetes.

“My grandmother died of diabetes and I made the decision for myself that I do not want to travel down that same road,” said Evans. “I realized that I have the choice to change my habits now so that I can go through life in good health and be proud of my body.” There is evidence that shows losing 5-10% of your body weight reduces your risk for cardiovascular diseases through improvements in blood cholesterol levels.

In support of the American Heart Association’s healthy-living initiative My Heart. My Life™, Jenny Craig launched My Heart. My Life.™ My Jenny, which focuses on educating the public regarding the significant health risks associated with weight-related diseases, including heart disease and stroke. Through marketing campaigns, PSAs, community programs, education and online activations, the brand is encouraging the public to eat better, move more and live a healthier life.

“We cannot deny the growing obesity epidemic, and the heart issues that come from being overweight,” said Stephanie Hart, Vice President of Operations, Jenny Craig. “And that’s why it is our goal as a National Sponsor of the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk, to take action and spread the word that just 30 minutes of activity a day can improve your heart health. We’re excited to bring the community together here in our own backyard and practice what we preach by getting out there and walking!”

Most people don’t realize that weight impacts their heart health and maintaining a healthy weight can positively impact risk factors including blood pressure and cholesterol management, blood sugar levels and BMI. Current research surveys show that less than 1 percent of Americans are in “ideal heart health,” as defined by the AHA and that’s why Jenny is proud to be supporting the American Heart Association’s mission to improve the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20 percent by 2020.

Jenny will engage its centres throughout the country to motivate the public to participate in Heart Walks near them, and will provide free training plans at as well as information on Jenny’s clinically proven approach to weight loss.

And for a limited time, Jenny is hosting its 4th annual Weekend of Weight Loss from September 13-16th - its best sale of the season. Visit a participating Jenny Craig Centre and receive 50% off any Jenny Craig weight loss program. Jenny will donate $5 for every program sold during the Weekend of Weight Loss** to the American Heart Association’s My Heart. My Life. campaign. And for the San Diego Heart Walk attendees, please stop by the Jenny Craig booth pick up the offer card on September 15th to get your WOW offer!

*Clients following our program, on average, lose 1-2 pounds per week.

Media Registration Call: Nation’s Largest HIV/AIDS Conference Comes to San Diego

- Advocates, Care Providers, and People Living with HIV to Strategize on ACA Enrollment, High Impact Prevention, and PrEP -

San Diego, CA – 18 years since its first convening, the United States Conference on AIDS (USCA) will make San Diego its home this October bringing the HIV community together under one vision, to end this epidemic. As the largest annual AIDS-related gathering in the country, USCA has stuck true to its roots, increasing the strength and diversity of the community-based response to the epidemic through education, training, collaboration and networking. USCA will continue to highlight the way the Affordable Care Act is expanding access to coverage and what that means for the Ryan White Program, while also focusing on the challenges posed by the rapidly changing health care landscape. Indeed, these changes inspired this year’s theme: Transforming Together.

Featured speakers include Dr. Laura Cheever, Associate Administrator at the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) HIV/AIDS Bureau (HAB), Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP) Dr. Jono Mermin, as well as his successor Dr. Eugene McCray, who stepped in as Director of HIV/AIDS Prevention at the Center earlier this month. Also addressing attendees will be the recently appointed White House Office on National AIDS Policy (ONAP) Director, Douglas Brooks, the first Black gay man living openly with HIV to hold that position.

Additional notable speakers include, Mark Harrington from Treatment Action Group and Charles King from Housing Works, both of whom will share their experiences working to develop New York State’s recently unveiled plan to end AIDS by 2020. There will be more than 200 hundred other workshops and session available this year, providing advocates, activists and all those in attendance the latest and most cutting edge strategies to address the needs of those living with and vulnerable to HIV.

WHAT: United States Conference on AIDS

WHERE: Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel

WHEN: October 2-5, 2014

The target for this year's conference is the nation’s diverse Latino population, with a focus on access to health care. As the largest minority group in the U.S., Hispanics are disproportionately affected by HIV/AIDS. In 2010, Latinos comprised 16% of the U.S. population or 44.3 million people, yet represented 19% of new HIV infections. Latino men are more than three times as likely to be diagnosed with HIV as their white counterparts. At the same time, Latina women are four times more likely to be infected than white women. As this population continues to grow, it is particularly critical that we address the unique health care needs of Latinos if we are to realize the vision of an AIDS-free generation.
